Abstract: There have been studies of the software reliability growth model based on the hypergeometric distribution model, most of which have been concerned with the testing and debugging process. In this paper, the assumption of a hypergeometric distribution model for software reliability evaluation in service operation is reviewed, and the estimation power of the model is investigated by using actual fault data. It is found that the estimated mean time between failures agrees with the observed value. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
