Abstract: The preparation of isolated quantum dots of compound semiconductors is in its infancy. Such materials have potential in a wide range of technological applications from LEDs to sensors. An interesting feature of these developments is that it seems likely that materials prepared by conventional 'wet chemistry' methods may find use in high-technology areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
