Abstract: The article deals with the advantages for Hartzell Propeller of its move to strategically combine shop floor coordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection and on-machine probing in its manufacturing cells. To provide instant process feedback to cell operators, the propeller manufacturer culled the best shop machining practices, developed proven processes and documented them in operational flowcharts and brought highly accurate, automated inspection capabilities to each cell via shop floor CMM.
