Title: Connecting fieldbus--selecting the system to match the task.
Authors: Verhappen, I.1
Source: Hydrocarbon Processing. Mar2008, Vol. 87 Issue 3, p69-73. 5p. 1 Color Photograph, 3 Diagrams, 2 Charts.
Subjects: Automatic control systems, Profibus (Computer bus), Automation, Engineering instruments, Computer buses
Abstract: The article compares four common options for connecting field devices to control systems using foundation fieldbus (FF) technology. These four options, which are mostly used for classified areas, include explosion proof, fieldbus intrinsically safe concept, fieldbus nonincendive concept and fieldbus barrier. The author also lists the important things to consider when installing an FF or Profibus PA system.
