Authors: Harvey, Ian
Source: Backbone. Mar/Apr2008, p24-28. 4p.
Subjects: Artificial intelligence, Deep Blue (Computer), Computer software, Computer chess tournaments, Artificial neural networks, Kasparov, G. K. (Garri Kimovich), 1963-, Burgener, Robin
Abstract: The article focuses on the development of artificial intelligence (AI). It notes that one major example of AI was an IBM computer program called Deep Blue, which won a single match against the world's reigning chess champion Garry Kasparov on February 10, 1996. Ottawa software engineer Robin Burgener said that the challenge for AI lies on its inability to work across large neural networks simultaneously. It cites how the AI neuron net could be used in case of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.
