Abstract: The article discusses technological developments in dyeing and finishing of microdenier polyester. As reported, microdenier polyester fiber is one of the new concepts in chemical fiber manufacturing which aims at the development of a super natural fiber to rival and simulation of silk for luxurious soft touch, tensile strength, ease of care. It has been admitted by textile fiber experts from the U.S. that there is a limit as to how fine a yarn can be engineered before its advantages are weakened. It is stated that surface finishing techniques can resolve the difficulty in dyeing a much greater surface area of the microdenier polyester filament fabrics.
