Abstract: Abstract: The Boltzmann transport equation is used to obtain new effective stochastic descriptions of dilute gas diffusion in presence of temperature gradients. It is found that temperature gradients not only introduce a thermophoresis force, but also substantially modify the friction and noise acting on the diffusing particle. The various corrections are computed exactly and compared with each other and with the thermophoresis force. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
