Abstract: The article focuses on the use of the Scala language in developing online chat application. It is said that Scala supports the actor model in which each actor is capable of sending and receiving chat messages. It provides a step-by-step instruction for creating a chat application using the computer version 2.2.1 of the Maven project life-cycle management tool and Java 1.6. Features of the Scala language are discussed.
