Abstract: The article discusses the study and teaching of information technology (IT) and computer science in U.S. high schools. It focuses on the example of the Cisco Networking Academy (CNA), which has been offering such courses since 1978. The most popular of these is the Cisco Certified Network Associate program, and a statistical analysis of this program is presented. The impact of factors such as school location, class size, motivation, grade point average and gender on student achievement and confidence in the program are discussed.
