Abstract: The article presents a study on the drilling procedures used for risk management in the Forties oil field in North Sea. It states that a mud-weight window is estimated in selected well trajectories for troublesome zones and drilling problems identification using geomechanical model. It also discusses the well plan applied to the drilling process. It adds that the nonproductive costs of the Forties oil fields in 2007 was reduced by 60% in 2008 due to the knowledge gained from the project.
