Abstract: The article reports on the aerial bombing of North Vietnam by the U.S. It reveals that the targets of the bombing were military camps and oil storage facilities of Hanoi-Haiphong complex with the purpose of crippling the communists and, thereby, preventing major attacks in the South. According to the author, the decision of U.S. President Lyndon Johnson and his Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, to bomb the North garnered both praise and criticism.
