| Abstract: | The article presents information on a syllabication algorithm based on syntactic analysis and describes algorithms as applied to pattern matching schemata and efficient implementation of rules to divide words. Spanish has a more rigid lexical structure whose rules can be precisely stated without exceptions. Rules to divide words are precisely stated by the Royal Academy of Spanish Language. Letters are divided into consonants, vowels and semivowel. The algorithm for word hyphenation can be applied as a filter that introduces as many correct breaking points as possible. The text processor will choose those that are convenient for line splitting and just forget about the others. The second algorithm for syllabication may be applied to very different situations such as natural language analysis in artificial intelligence applications or in voice generation from typed text. It can be used for data compression algorithms where an optimal encoding is devised depending on syllable frequency, even on syllable position in a word. |
