| Abstract: | The article discusses the economically distressed communities in the U.S. It states that unemployment in distressed locations is usually caused by plant shutdowns, mass employee layoffs, and decrease in specific industries. It says that with the communities having largest economic contractions, it is possible that employment and income will be continuously affected by the recession. It adds that since 1980, communities that are hardly hit by the recession gets an average earning growth of 12%. |
