Abstract: The article provides information on a study which provided a structural perspective of the altered sugar specificity of Erythrina corallodendron lectin (EcorL). The research presented the crystal structure of a mutant legume lectin, which has provided the first structural view of an engineered carbohydrate-binding site. It also investigated the differences in the relative binding affinities of the wild-type and mutant towards the two sugars based on the structures.
