Abstract: The article discusses the Resource Description and Access (RDA) library cataloging code, providing information particularly for librarians not familiar with cataloging. It focuses on the development of RDA as well as the significance of RDA for library science and library information. Differences between RDA and its predecessor, the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, second edition (AACR2), are examined. Other topics discussed include the history of 19th- and 20th-century cataloging codes, the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) conceptual model, and the advantages of RDA.
