Authors: Burke, Thomas Thomas.Burke@opc-foundation.org
Source: InTech. Mar/Apr2011, Vol. 58 Issue 2, p30-34. 5p.
Subjects: Object linking & embedding, Process control systems, Data transmission systems, Household electronics, Automation
Abstract: The article provides an introspective to the technical innovations and business value of Object linking and embedding for Process Control (OPC) Unified Architecture (UA) infrastructure. The ramifications and application of consumer electronics to industrial automation are discussed together with the development of the OPC UA platform. The collaboration by OPC Foundation with organizations and consortiums in different domains is presented along with the focus of OPC UA on information integration and device-to-device communication through its gateway.
