Abstract: This descriptive survey recorded perceptions of the Botswana College of Agriculture's (BCA) Field Practical Training (FPT) supervisors about the effectiveness of the FPT program in imparting practical agricultural competencies to BCA students. Data were collected from supervisors who assessed students during the 2008 FPT session. While students were perceived to be competent in most of the practical skills taught at BCA, supervisors highlighted constraints that nullify the perceived effectiveness. Supervisors should spend more time with the students so that they observe students on task. More of BCA's academic and technical staff should be involved in assessing students in FPT.
