Abstract: The article presents advice for industrial engineers on how to approach solving a problem with an asset-based frame of mind. It explains that asset-based solutions focus on exploiting the talents of those working to solve a problem instead of employing a conventional solution that may not be as successful. It recommends a problem-solving framework using the acronym "FIRST," providing advice like finding the problem system's assets, recognizing opportunities that present themselves for solving the problem, and transitioning the problem system towards self-sufficiency.
