Abstract: The article presents an experimental study which evaluates the principal strain distribution differences between the intact and artificial hip joint around the acetabular cavity. The study uses two in vitro models of a natural and a prosthetic hip joint articulation made of composite materials matching the mechanical properties of the real bones. Results show that an artificial articulation changes the strain distribution on the bone structure.
