| Abstract: | The article discusses the increasing use of robots such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in oceanography research, which are able to reach areas of oceans inaccessible by humans, conventional ships, or satellite remote sensing. Types of sensor-bearing AUVs include profiling floats, buoyancy-propelled gliders, and propeller-driven AUVs. Other topics include AUV navigation systems, research during storms such as hurricanes and typhoons, and study of climate warming in Antarctica. |
