Abstract: The research presented describes our approach to enabling content developers and end-users to create and/or customise distributed GIS applications dynamically at run-time through the incorporation of GIS services, implemented as stand-alone components or CORBA Objects, with a specialised XML descriptor. It also looks at some of the design considerations that must be dealt with by both the client-application developer as well as the service developer, including the GIS service description, associated GUI and help system.
