Abstract: In this study, 59 Warmblood horses were examined endoscopically at rest, during overground endoscopy and by laryngeal ultrasonography to evaluate the validity of ultrasonography as an additional diagnostic tool for left recurrent laryngeal neuropathy in Warmblood horses. Left laryngeal function during endoscopy at rest and overground exercise was scored by 3 blinded examiners. A new semiquantitative subjective-descriptive score was used for evaluation of ultrasonographic images. Sensitivity and specificity as well as positive and negative predictive values of ultrasonographic images for longitudinal and transverse planes were calculated in reference to endoscopic scoring results. Laryngeal ultrasonography with semiquantitative grading proved to be a very sensitive and specific technique for evaluation of recurrent laryngeal neuropathy in Warmblood horses.
