Abstract: If the new wave of school reform is to he successful, the enhanced expectations and growing cultural diversity of school children demand integrative structures between home and school. Concurrent movements fir the involvement of parents in the school community and in the education of their children present major opportunities for the development of the school social work role. An analytic review of the school social work literature and history provides the basis for the discussion of a school social work role that integrates and differentiates home and school in a redefined school community.
