Abstract: The authors reflect on the need for middle school educators to embrace the concept of newness aimed at transforming a new class of students into a collaborative learning community. They oppose the labeling of a group of students who obtain high or low scores on standardized tests. They also call on middle school professionals to adopt a growth mindset in order to seek and generate opportunities for themselves and students.
