Abstract: Just recently, I was working with a wonderful team of 5th-grade teachers in a school, trying to arrange a special program for the next school year. In trying to schedule the days, the conversation with the team leader went something like this: "How about early in the year, like September?" "I don't think September is good as we are just getting to know one another." "Maybe October?" "If we could work around curriculum night preparation and conferences. Also, that is when we do our benchmarking for literacy." "November?" "November might work as long as it isn't the 2nd or 3rd week because we MAP test, and then of course we have break." I didn't bother suggesting December. Schools are busy places, and this teacher was right to present all of the stresses and scheduling that impact the students and faculty. Even so, if we don't make space for those things that aren't already built in the schedule, we can lose so many rich opportunities. It is the same with our own schedules. We urge you to think about how you can make time, even when there is no time, for professional reading and reflection, for talking about ideas presented in these books with colleagues, and for finding new books to read and recommend. It will be well worth the effort! This issue we present two books that are out with new editions and two that are brand new. Two are focused upon adolescent readers, one upon young readers, and one upon all readers. Enjoy your time with them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
