It mentions that Douglas was a Canadian democratic socialist politician and Baptist minister, who was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1935 whose government was the first democratic socialist government in North America, and it introduced the continent's first single-payer, universal health care program, that led to Medicare. It discusses Manning, a Canadian politician, was the eighth premier of Alberta between 1943 and 1968 for the Social Credit Party of Alberta who foresaw practical problems with the Saskatchewan model which provided universal coverage of physicians' services in Canada.
