Abstract (English): This paper aims at reviewing the concept of cognitive load and explaining the important contributions of different authors to determine the effects of reading hypertext in relation to cognitive load. Abstract (Spanish): Este artículo tiene como finalidad realizar una revisión del concepto de carga cognitiva y explicar los aportes relevantes de diferentes autores para determinar los efectos de la lectura de hipertexto en relación con la carga cognitiva. Así mismo, presentar un repaso histórico que permite establecer los antecedentes de este concepto, sus tipos y los diferentes elementos que lo conforman. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
