Abstract: The article explores the writings of American author Percival Everett. Particular focus is given to his 2013 novel "Percival Everett by Virgil Russell," which focuses upon overlapping stories between a father and son. Additional topics discussed include African American literature, ethnicity as it is presented in Everett's work and how the work compares to other works of fiction including "Critical Memory," by Houston Baker and "Their Eyes Were Watching God," by Zora Neale Hurston.
