| Abstract (English): | Being a teacher brings a profession with a complex and highly saturated responsibilities. It presents a number of occupational hazards that can affect both your health and the quality of teaching activity. Teaching activity is generally recognized by governments and organizations around the world. However, this sector often lacks proper attention on occupational health and, in many cases, their working conditions have to be improved. Objectives: To analyze Nicaraguan Secondary teachers' perception about their labor and social situation. Method: Non-experimental design, transectional and correlational. An ad hoc questionnaire to 157 subjects with 62 items was implemented. The validity of the questionnaire was achieved by piloting and validation process by experts. To analyze data, SPSS for Windows version 18.0 was used. Because nature of the data and research design, we conducted descriptive analysis and contrasts of hypothesis with nonparametric tests. Results: Nicaraguan Secondary Teachers feel recognized for their community and feel highly satisfied with their work. However, they consider living with a high prevalence of situations that threaten their health, poor physical conditions in places where they work and a health system that, in his opinion, does not meet their needs. Conclusions: The teaching vocation, social recognition and good relations between colleagues minimize teachers' risk perception. Teachers begin to be aware of their problems and health needs as they gain in experience; with more work experience, the greater the demand for resources and health care. It is highlighted that there is currently a need for specific training through preventive health programs, especially among younger teachers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El profesorado constituye una profesión compleja y muy saturada de responsabilidades. Presenta un buen número de riesgos laborales que pueden afectar tanto a su salud como a la calidad de la enseñanza que imparte. Su labor es generalmente reconocida por los Gobiernos y Organizaciones de todo el mundo. Sin embargo, este sector carece con frecuencia de la debida atención en materia de salud laboral y convive con condiciones de trabajo manifiestamente mejorables. Objetivos: Analizar, desde la propia percepción de los protagonistas, la situación socio-laboral del profesorado de secundaria de Nicaragua. Métodos: Diseño no experimental transeccional, de tipo correlacional. Se implementó un cuestionario ad hoc de 62 ítems a 157 sujetos. Se aseguró la validez del cuestionario mediante pilotaje y proceso de validación por expertos/as. Para el análisis de los datos se empleó el paquete estadístico SPSS para Windows versión 18.0. Por la naturaleza de los datos y por el sentido de la investigación, se han realizado análisis descriptivos, correlacionales y contrastes de hipótesis mediante pruebas no paramétricas. Resultados: El profesorado de Secundaria de Nicaragua se siente reconocido por su comunidad y siente una alta satisfacción con la tarea que desempeña. Sin embargo, convive con una alta prevalencia de situaciones que atentan contra su salud, condiciones materiales deficientes en los centros donde labora y un sistema de salud que, a su juicio, no responde a sus necesidades. Conclusiones: La vocación docente, el reconocimiento social y las buenas relaciones entre colegas hacen minimizar la percepción del riesgo entre los/as profesores/as que empiezan a ser conscientes de sus problemas y necesidades en materia de salud a medida que van ganando en experiencia; a mayor experiencia laboral, mayor es la demanda de recursos y atención en materia de salud. Se pone de manifiesto que existe actualmente la necesidad de una formación específica mediante programas de salud preventiva, especialmente entre el profesorado más joven. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
