Abstract (English): This paper is about the relation between intellect and education in the Summa Theologica by Thomas Aquinas. The main objective is to analyze how the Dominican theologian links the discussion about the intellect and teacher education in the context of Western Christianity of the thirteenth century. The source chosen for this study is Question 79 of the First Part of Summa Theologica, written between 1260 and 1274, when intellectuals discussed the problem of intellect, especially the Averroists and Mendicants masters in the university context. It was found that this debate was linked to the different projects of civilization that circulated in the Western world in the second half of the thirteenth century. A careful analysis of the Thomasian works does not disregard the social, cultural and political environment in which they are inserted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Este artículo trata de la relación entre intelecto y educación en la Suma Teológica de Tomás de Aquino. El objetivo principal es investigar de qué modo el teólogo dominico vincula la discusión acerca del intelecto y la formación de educadores, en el contexto de la Cristiandad occidental del siglo XIII. La fuente escogida para el análisis es la Cuestión 79 de la Primera Parte de la Suma Teológica, obra escrita entre las décadas de 1260 y 1274, época en que los intelectuales discutían el problema del intelecto, particularmente los maestros averroístas y mendicantes en el contexto universitario. Se verificó que ese debate estaba atado a los diferentes proyectos de civilización que circulaban en el mundo occidental en la segunda mitad del siglo XIII. Un análisis prudente de las obras tomasinas no desconsidera el ambiente social, cultural y político en que están insertadas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
