Abstract (English): Circle time, understood as a regular morning assembly of all the children of a class, can be described as an everyday educational setting. In spite of the very widespread use of this recurrent routine, hardly any research on structure, contents and objectives of the morning circle can be found. International findings indicate that circle time can serve as an appropriate setting (for intervention) in order to transform an everyday situation into a learning situation. The composition of this educational setting is the subject of the following study. A total of 28 morning circles was observed; moreover, the preschool teachers were questioned about their beliefs and their intended objectives in the implementation of circle time. The analyses suggest that circle time has a specific structure. Especially language activities like rounds of storytelling or the counting of all the children present are inherent parts of the procedure. Overall, the preschool teachers prove to have a highly positive attitude towards circle time as they like guiding it and consider it to be an important part of the daily kindergarten routine. The intended objectives range from "giving children talking occasions" to "improving the group spirit". The results will be discussed and practical implications will be highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
