In the article, the authors discuss some strategies for integrating picture books featuring the characters' authentic use of translanguaging in read-aloud activities in K-3 English language education. Also cited are the importance of focusing on the interrelationships between culture, language and identity, the need to understand nonmainstream dialects like African American Vernacular English (AAVE) affirmatively, and how to decide whether to read aloud picture books. |
