| Abstract: | Erica Komisar Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters2017 Penguin New York, NY Graph As a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow and mother of a 9-month-old, one can imagine why the title Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters would catch my attention. Ms. Komisar states in this book "for the most part, guilt is a message sent by our unconscious that we may not be striking the right balance in our lives" (p 83), which sharply contrasts with the intensely palpable "mom guilt" we feel. In our opinion, the author's critical language and underlying tone is the main weakness of this book; it often comes across as judgmental and is incongruent with the author's intended message and stated purpose.
