In 2017 the University of Florida (UF) Agricultural Operations Management (AOM) Task Force in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) was formed with the overall goal of enriching the AOM program through curriculum enhancement, course revisions and program of study development. The AOM Task Force surveyed 438 alumni, 38 ABE faculty, and interviewed five industry representatives. From results of the survey and interview activities, the Task Force noted strengths of the program which included developing critical, analytical, independent thinkers proficient in technical management. Furthermore, business, communication, interpersonal skills as well as familiarity with emerging technologies such as drones, robotics, and sensors and their application in agriculture were identified as knowledge areas that would benefit AOM students in their professional careers. From these findings, efforts made by the Task Force resulted in the proposal of new courses and certificates, the creation of new recruitment and program promotional materials as well as research proposals and the formation of a synergistic partnership with the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning to provide complementary instruction to undergraduate students.
