Abstract: The authors uncover and explore five contemporary rationales for infusing Hebrew into camp: I Israel i : Hebrew language builds connections between American Jews and Israel. Both CHE and HTM endeavor to teach Jewish/Hebrew vocabulary without purporting to teach learners how to speak Hebrew, yet HTM learners are exposed to Hebrew language patterns (if not grammar), whereas with CHE, that is not always the case. Interestingly, the authors don't consider I Jewish life vocabulary i , a term that refers to "Hebrew words used within English in Jewish communal life" (Benor et al., [2], p. 8), as a form of Hebrew. I Judaism i : Hebrew gives the campers access to the history, values, and sacred practices of the Jewish people through the study of texts and prayers and thus contributes to the religious and spiritual growth of individual Jews.
