| Abstract (English): | In this article, the production of knowledge about what is known in the international literature as 'the student experience' is examined. This construct has been researched in the United Kingdom while, in the United States, the "student engagement" has gained traction. Although in Latin America the production of knowledge in higher education has been increasing in the last decade, studies on student experiences are rather scarce, although there are abundant literatures on higher education in general. By means of a bibliometric analysis and a content analysis of articles published between 2000 and 2017 by Latin American authors in two recognized indexes (Web of Science and SciELO), this article examines the production of knowledge about higher education students' experiences from a geopolitics of knowledge perspective. The results show that, in Latin America, there is a diverse production of knowledge about higher education students, and given this plurality, the concept of "epistemic polyphony" is proposed. On the one hand, there is an epistemic predominance of Anglo-Saxon influences but, on the other hand, it also presents specific features related to higher education systems in the region. The article ends with a reflection on the ways in which knowledge is produced in the Latin American region and how such production has an impact on policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | En este artículo, se examina la producción de conocimiento en Latinoamérica sobre lo que se conoce en la literatura internacional como 'las experiencias del estudiante' ('the student experience' en inglés). Este constructo ha sido investigado en Reino Unido mientras que, en Estados Unidos, 'student engagement' ha ganado terreno. A pesar de que en Latinoamérica la producción de conocimiento en educación superior ha ido aumentando en la última década, poco se sabe sobre estudios en torno a las experiencias de los estudiantes, aunque sí existen numerosas investigaciones acerca de los estudiantes de educación superior en general. A través de un análisis bibliométrico y análisis de contenido de artículos publicados entre 2000 y 2017 por autores latinoamericanos en dos reconocidas indexaciones (Web of Science y SciELO), este artículo examina la producción de conocimiento sobre las experiencias de los estudiantes de educación superior desde una perspectiva geopolítica del conocimiento. Los resultados muestran que, en Latinoamérica, existe una producción de conocimiento sobre estudiantes de educación terciaria que es muy diversa y, dada esta pluralidad, proponemos el concepto de 'polifonía epistémica'. Por un lado, hay un predominio de influencias anglosajonas en esta producción de conocimiento, y por otro, presenta características particulares relacionadas con los sistemas de educación superior en esta región. | Abstract (Portuguese): | Neste artigo, examinamos a produção de conhecimento na América Latina sobre o que é conhecido na literatura internacional como 'a experiência do aluno' ("the student experience" em inglês). Esse conceito foi investigada no Reino Unido, enquanto, nos Estados Unidos, o engajo de estudantes engajados 'ganhou terreno. Embora na América Latina a produção de conhecimento no ensino superior tenha aumentado na última década, pouco se sabe sobre os estudos sobre as experiências dos alunos, embora existam inúmeras investigações sobre os estudantes do ensino superior em geral. Através de uma análise bibliométrica e análise de conteúdo de artigos publicados entre 2000 e 2017 por autores latinoamericanos em dois índices reconhecidos (Web of Science e SciELO), este artigo examina a produção de conhecimento sobre as experiências de estudantes do ensino superior de um perspectiva geopolítica do conhecimento. Os resultados mostram que, na América Latina, há uma produção de conhecimento sobre os alunos do ensino superior muito diversificada e, diante dessa pluralidade, propomos o conceito de "polifonia epistémica". Por um lado, predominam as influências anglo-saxônicas nessa produção de conhecimento e, por outro, apresenta características particulares relacionadas aos sistemas de ensino superior nessa região.
