The article offers ideas on curating conversations about hot-button or controversial current events in the classroom. Topics include the difficulty of preparing and getting the best resources for this conversation, the author's experience teaching his sophomores a unit on Markus Zusak's "The Book Thief" about a German girl and a Jewish man who both spend portions of World War II hiding in a German family's house, and the three-step process he used resulting in the success of the conversation. |
