Abstract: Keywords: teacher education; teacher preparation; equity; democratic education EN teacher education teacher preparation equity democratic education 3 8 6 05/27/22 20220301 NES 220301 This guest-edited special issue of I Teachers College Record i was proposed in February 2020, alongside the highly polarizing political climate of Donald Trump's 2016 presidency and bid for reelection in 2020. Along these lines, economic prosperity has been linked to accountability and leveraged as the major approach to reforming education and teacher education in the United States by "holding teacher education accountable" ([2], [3]). They employ an abolitionist critique of teacher education to demonstrate how and why problematic structures must be dismantled, concluding with lessons that can guide teacher education programs and teacher educators in the necessary work of growing abolition.
