Abstract: The article investigates the effects of competitive match play on mucosal immunity and hormonal status in elite-level professional football players, specifically examining changes within 72 hours post-match. Saliva samples from 10 professional outfield players were analyzed for immunoglobulin-A, cortisol, and testosterone levels at various time points surrounding a match. Results indicated that immunoglobulin-A and cortisol levels increased significantly after the match and remained elevated for 72 hours, while testosterone levels rose only after this period. The findings suggest that players experience a notable disruption in hormonal balance following matches, highlighting the importance of individualized monitoring and potential adjustments to training loads for recovery.
