Abstract: The article reports that teacher shortages have re-entered the national consciousness as quarantines and the intense stresses created by the COVID-19 pandemic drained teaching staffs school year, even cause some schools to close temporarily. Topics include examines Governor Lujan Grisham sent in members of the National Guard to serve as substitute teachers and spent a day serving as a substitute herself, before persuading the legislature to raise minimum salaries for teachers.
