Abstract: The article presents information about the book "Modern Biology and Visions of Humanity." This is the collection of papers given at a conference in Genoa, March 2004 organized by the European Group on Life Sciences. It aims to break down barriers between scientists, political opponents of scientific advance and people who are alarmed at the prospects it opens up. The four forums examine different ways that the life sciences. They are the impact on citizens: the belief in progress; the legacy of reductionism; relations with relations with democracy and finally, cultural spin-offs.
