| Abstract: | In advancing our understanding of frontline workers' agency, Maynard-Moody and Musheno propose that the workers' and citizens' identities matter as much as their actions. Frontline workers are seen as governing workers, whose actions materialize the power of the state. Major recent events, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and a marked increase in other persistent situations, such as police violence and responses to natural disasters, have certainly made frontline work and workers prominent in the global public consciousness (Gofen & Lotta, [5]; Musheno et al., [13]). In this moment of world events, with the rise of right-wing movements and contestation of democracy and the liberal state, it is quite important for us to link discussions about frontline workers, citizenship, and state legitimacy.
