Abstract: In "Envisioning Zion", Levisohn argues that the six approaches to Israel education that Davis and Alexander identify are I not i rooted in a flimsy commitment to the individual autonomy of an ethical liberalist approach - as Davis and Alexander suggest - but instead on a different set of sacred commitments that American Jews embrace but which are distinct from Zionism. While Troy is sympathetic to Davis and Alexander's commitment to Zionism, he is more skeptical of their moniker "mature Zionism", proposing instead the term "identity Zionism." Second, and more radically, Hassenfeld disputes Davis and Alexander's assumption that the enumerated competing conceptions of Israel education share a goal of engendering personal and collective commitment to Israel.
