| Abstract: |
This article discusses three teaching practices that promote compassion towards college students' stressors: building social support, managing goal regulation, and fostering self-compassion. The author suggests that educators can demonstrate support by being flexible with deadlines, as inflexible deadlines may penalize students for uncontrollable factors and lead to disengagement. Additionally, scaffolding large assignments into smaller, more achievable goals can alleviate students' sense of overwhelm. Lastly, encouraging self-care and normalizing breaks can foster self-compassion and alleviate students' guilt about not constantly working. These practices aim to recognize and connect with students as human beings in all their complexities. [Extracted from the article] |
