Abstract: This article, titled "On the Cover: High School Coursetaking Sequence Clusters and Postsecondary Enrollment," explores the relationship between the courses students take in high school and their decisions about college. The study uses a Sankey graph to visually represent how students transition between different coursetaking groups and how these choices impact their enrollment in college. The data for the study comes from the 2009 High School Longitudinal Study, which tracked over 24,000 students from 9th grade through college. The findings reveal interesting trends, such as the majority of students in advanced English Language Arts transitioning into advanced math, and a significant number of students in the physics-oriented science cluster enrolling in selective 4-year colleges.
