| Abstract (English): | Cable-driven building elevators can be seen as a spring-mass system and, by means of Hooke's Law, we may quantify its oscillation period, resulting that the square of said period is directly proportional to the length of the wire [4]. We set upon ourselves the task to validate said results. We used the elevator of the CIT building found at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, Phyphox app, Excel and Capstone programs for data analysis purposes. We recorded the perpendicular acceleration inside the elevator as a function of the time on all 11 floors after making it oscillate with a jump, obtaining the oscillation period of the system (elevator). Amongst the results, we obtained the correlation ratio R² = 0.98 of the linear regression applied in the graph relating the square of the period as a function of each level of the CIT Building, a value which validated the hypothesis. We reached the consensus stating that an elevator functioning by a spring-mass system, the square of the oscillation period is directly proportional to the length of the wire. | Abstract (Spanish): | Los elevadores que funcionan por medio de cables pueden ser modelados como sistemas masa-resorte y por medio de la ley Hooke se puede cuantificar el periodo de oscilación de este, mostrando que el cuadrado del periodo de la oscilación es directamente proporcional a la longitud del cable [4]. Se planteó utilizar una aplicación de celular, para estudiar el movimiento oscilatorio amortiguado de un elevador. Se utilizó un elevador de 11 niveles del edificio CIT en la Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, la aplicación Phyphox y los programas Excel y Capstone. Se grabó aceleración perpendicular dentro del elevador en función del tiempo al saltar dentro de este en los 11 distintos niveles, con lo que se obtuvo el periodo de oscilación del sistema masa-resorte (elevador). Se obtuvo un coeficiente de correlación R² = 0.98 realizado al gráfico del cuadrado del periodo en función del nivel del edificio CIT, valor con el que se validó la hipótesis planteada. Se llegó a la conclusión general que para un elevador funcionando por medio de un sistema de cables, el cuadrado del periodo de la oscilación es directamente proporcional a la longitud del cable.
