| Abstract: | In "The Venture Alchemists: How Big Tech Turned Profits into Power," author Rob Lalka examines the actions of prominent Silicon Valley figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Travis Kalanick. Lalka argues that these individuals have amassed wealth while subjecting ordinary people to constant surveillance and exploiting their personal data. He attributes their behavior to the influence of free-market economist Milton Friedman and capitalist ideologue Ayn Rand. While Lalka's book provides an extensive account of the misdeeds of these tech CEOs, it offers little new information and is occasionally hindered by excessive emotion.
