Abstract (English): This research characterizes the practices and strategies of 25 high school students when translating, revising, and editing online passages in English from the novel Battles in the Desert by José Emilio Pacheco. The approach contemplates the functionalist proposal of translation as a mediation practice to achieve understanding, interpretation and comment on the content. The activity included the initial translation based on the students' knowledge and those carried out using Google, Reverso, Word and another freely chosen translator. The feedback and assessment of performance with the online tools favored the editing of the initial and final translation with the Word processor corrector and three suggested online applications. The students commented on the translations and the resources used. The results highlight progress supported by online tools to review and improve translations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Esta investigación caracteriza las prácticas y estrategias de 25 estudiantes bachilleres al traducir, revisar y editar en línea pasajes en inglés de la novela Las batallas en el desierto de José Emilio Pacheco. El enfoque contempla la propuesta funcionalista de la traducción como práctica de mediación para lograr la comprensión, la interpretación y comentar su contenido. La actividad comprendió la traducción inicial a partir de los conocimientos de los estudiantes y las realizadas mediante los traductores Google, Reverso, Word y otro elegido libremente. La retroalimentación y la valoración del desempeño con las herramientas en línea favoreció la edición de la traducción inicial y la final con los correctores del procesador de textos Word y tres aplicaciones en línea sugeridas. Los alumnos comentaron las traducciones y los recursos empleados. Los resultados destacan el avance con el apoyo de las herramientas en línea para revisar y mejorar las traducciones.
