| Abstract (English): | One challenge for teachers is the design of educational material that generates engagement in digital teaching, which is relevant in university courses where performance is influenced by course complexity and motivational factors. This paper evaluates the effects of the design of an e-textbook on engagement in digital learning in a Cuban university. The methodology followed a quasi-experimental design. The first phase included the design and expert validation of the e-textbook. The second phase was the quasi-experiment, in which 178 students participated (88 in the experimental group and 90 in the control group). Students who used the e-textbook showed a significant improvement in engagement and academic performance. These results reinforce the need for teachers to design interactive resources for digital teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Uno de los retos del profesorado es el diseño de materiales educativos para generar engagement en la enseñanza digital, aspecto relevante en materias universitarias en las que el rendimiento está influenciado por su complejidad y factores motivacionales. Este trabajo evalúa los efectos del diseño de un e-textbook en el engagement hacia el aprendizaje digital en una universidad cubana. La metodología responde a un diseño cuasiexperimental; una primera fase incluye el diseño del e-textbook y su validación por expertos; en la segunda fase se realizó el cuasiexperimento con la participación de 178 estudiantes (88 en el grupo experimental y 90 en el grupo de control). Los estudiantes que utilizaron el e-textbook consiguieron una mejora significativa del engagement y el rendimiento académico, estos resultados refuerzan la necesidad de que los profesores diseñen recursos interactivos para la enseñanza digital.
