Abstract: It is well known that technology has played a crucial role in foreign language instruction in the last decades and has allowed educators to teach remotely or in blended environments, teach new digital literacies, find authentic materials, foster engagement, and promote collaborative learning, among other goals. Recently, the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) systems in education, particularly in foreign language learning, has raised several concerns. This article begins by highlighting the larger theoretical reasoning for integrating AI into our classrooms by positioning it within the Universal Design for Learning framework and then presents specific examples of the methods and practices instructors may use to incorporate AI in Italian language, culture, and literature courses and introduce literature at the lower levels of the language sequence.
